Taking Time

My husband’s normal day off of work during the week is Tuesday. It’s important we’re taking time for each other, even if it’s just every now and then. We have to clear our schedules for a quick breather together! The kids are in school and I don’t typically meet my clients that early in the day, plus we both require coffee before considering ourselves socially acceptable to be around. So on this particular, somewhat cloudy morning, I made a suggestion for us to go into Boerne which is just a few minutes away, and feed the ducks at the river.

This is normally something we do with our kids, but when my husband and I are taking time out to do these things without them, it’s really kinda special. And also different. We’re not worrying about Jocelynn, our youngest, falling in the water and we’re not rushing to go from Point A to Point B. It just gives us time to see things from a new perspective. Plus, it gives us a glimpse of what life could be like when it’s only me and him. Gotta say though..to even type that, it feels crazy weird! Just the two of us.

Taking Time For Us

Date nights are something that’s always been hard for us to make happen! Definitely not because we haven’t had the desire to have them, though some might say that now it’s a little more difficult for me to get the motivation, especially for the last minute ones. But for whatever reason, we can’t ever seem to lock anyone down to help us watch our kids! And our whole relationship, we’ve been raising kids. Because I had my two daughters when we initially took the step from friends to lovers, and then we had our son pretty soon after. There was a brief moment when our daughters were old enough to keep things afloat, for us to get out for a little bit, but then we got the shock of Jocelynn and we’ve been back to square one!

In some weird way though, I almost think it’s been a testament of our love and our faith. I don’t know if there’s very many people that could’ve overcome that challenge, and while it was a major source of tension, we’ve kept things functioning and are becoming closer now than maybe we’ve been since the beginning!

Put A Fork In Me, I’m Done

And now, there definitely won’t be any more surprises in store, concerning the whole adding onto our family bit. We put a cork in that one! While I love being a parent, I’ll be ready to embrace being a wife with adult children, whenever that comes. It fills me with excitement and anticipation, actually!
